LIFE CYCLE OF A COCONUT

One of the many reasons I love Thailand is due to a natural resources that it offers. The island where I live is also referred as coconut island and locals have made amazing use of this seemingly simple '' ingredient ''. I have been fascinated learning from women elders in the Maenam village where I live. Coconuts are crushed by hand in the early morning, before it gets too warm, often before the sunrise. Grinded by experienced hands, gathering juicy coconut meat into beaten up vessel for fresh coconut milk or coconut oil, or both ... the shells are then collected on the pile - symmetrical ones made into beautiful eco friendly bowls, the rest is burned for several hours for one of the cleanest source of burning charcoal.
